Man in Black to play legendary UFO insider in new movie… but no UFOs on the radar

Men in Black star Tommy Lee Jones has secured the part of General Douglas MacArthur in the upcoming historical drama, Emperor, which ComingSoon.net describes as “an epic story of love and understanding set amidst the tensions and uncertainties of the days immediately following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II.” MacArthur – as the de facto ruler of post-War Japan in his role as Supreme Commander of the occupying forces – will be a major character in the story.
Emperor is based on a screenplay by David Klass (Walking Tall, Desperate Measures) and Vera Blasi (Woman on Top). It stars Matthew Fox as General Bonner Fellers, “one of MacArthur’s leading Japanese experts, who, at the end of World War II, is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal?”

Politically fascinating material, for sure, and more than worthy of the silver screen treatment. Also fascinating are General MacArthur’s alleged ties to the UFO issue and public statements he made about what he perceived to be a potential threat to Earth from extraterrestrials. In a speech to cadets of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in May, 1962, MacArthur said:
“We deal now, not with things of this world alone, but with the illimitable distances and as yet unfathomed mysteries of the universe. We are reaching out for a new and boundless frontier. We speak in strange terms, of harnessing the cosmic energy... of ultimate conflict between a united human race and the sinister forces of some other planetary galaxy.”
The General made a similar statement to the Mayor of Naples, Achille Lauro, in 1955. In an October 7 meeting between the two men that took place in New York, MacArthur told Lauro that the nations of Earth would one day be forced to “make a common front against attack by people from other planets.”

What inspired such seemingly bizarre comments from MacArthur may never be known for sure, but certain ‘whistleblowers’ have suggested that the General was intimately involved with the UFO/ET issue, both during and after the War.
Disclosure Project witness Buck Sergeant Leonard Pretko (USAF retired), for example, is on record with his story of how, in the early 1950s, one of MacArthur’s personal security guards told him that “General Douglas MacArthur was very familiar with the Roswell incident, the crash material, and also the bodies because he himself has seen them.”
Another Disclosure Project witness, Sergeant Clifford Stone – who claims to be a deep insider on the UFO/ET issue – goes even further. Stone says that MacArthur was in charge of the Army’s Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit (IPU), which is thought to have been established sometime during the early-to-mid-1940s.
In September 2000, Stone told Disclosure Project Director Steven Greer that the IPU “continued all the way through to present day. Names have changed and records still haven’t surfaced.” Stone, also said that the IPU bore fruit:
“It came to conclusions that were not popular, i.e. interplanetary spacecraft. And they [the IPU] continued to do exactly what they do today and that is to be part of a multi-intelligence operation in the recovery of objects of unknown origin, particularly those that are of non-Earthly origin.”
Stone went on to tell Greer that the IPU’s purpose is to “get raw field intelligence data, and process that data into some type of useful intelligence product to disseminate to the field – to those people who have a need to know.”
“MacArthur definitely had physical evidence,” said Stone. “From the documentation I saw [while working this issue in the Army], I was not able to ascertain exactly what that evidence consisted of, but it was there.”
The IPU is intriguing. Still shrouded in mystery, the existence of the unit was not formally acknowledged until 1984 (approximately forty years after its formation) when UFO researcher William Steinman made an enquiry about the IPU with the Army Directorate of Counterintelligence. In response to Steinman’s enquiry, Lieutenant Colonel Lance Corine explained that:
“The unit was formed as an in-house project purely as an interest item for the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence. It was never a ‘unit’ in the military sense, nor was it ever formally organized or reportable, it had no investigative function, mission or authority and may not even have had any formal records at all. It is only through institutional memory that any recollection exists of this unit.”
Three years later, in 1987, UFO researcher Timothy Good made a similar enquiry with the same office. The response was brief and clearly intended as the Army’s final word on the subject – but it was also encrusted with a twinkly UFOlogical nugget: the IPU’s files, it turned out, had long ago been handed over to Project Blue Book – the US Air Force’s long-running UFO investigations program that was disbanded in 1969.
Colonel Anthony Gallo Jr, Director of Counterintelligence, informed Good that the IPU “was disestablished during the late 1950’s and never reactivated. All records pertaining to this unit were turned over to the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations in conjunction with operation ‘BLUEBOOK’.”

That the Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit was associated with the UFO issue is hugely significant in light of the unit’s name: this was not a unit concerned with the discussion or investigation of advanced German or Soviet technology; it was not concerned with flocks of geese, weather balloons, swamp gas or other unusual atmospheric phenomena as explanations for UFOs. No, the IPU’s UFO concerns were“interplanetary” in nature...

Some UFO researchers believe that the IPU was established in response to the Battle of Los Angeles, in which flying elliptical objects – still unidentified to this day – were sighted over LA on the morning of February 25, 1942. The unknown objects were greeted by heavy but seemingly ineffectual artillery fire from the US Army. Six civilians were killed during the “raid.”
It is notable that, to date, no documentation from the IPU whatsoever has been officially released. However, a number of leaked documents – the authenticity of which is debatable – paint a truly eye-popping picture of the IPU’s activities during the 1940s. In one document, dated March 5, 1942 – just nine days after the Battle of Los Angeles – General George C. Marshall states in a Top Secret memo to the President:
“This Headquarters has come to the determination that the mystery airplanes are in fact not earthly and according to secret intelligence sources they are in all probability of interplanetary origin."
Marshall continues: "As a consequence I have issued orders to Army G2 that a special intelligence unit be created to further investigate the phenomenon...” Thus was established the Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit, which, so the story goes, would soon be headed-up by General MacArthur in close cooperation with General Marshall himself.

Admittedly, rumours of MacArthur’s involvement with the IPU have never been fully substantiated, but then neither have rumours about J. Edgar Hoover’s romantic feelings for his FBI number-two man, Clyde Tolson. Clint Eastwood nevertheless saw fit to explore these rumours in his recent biopic of the FBI head honcho, J. Edgar – a movie in which the UFO issue receives not one mention, despite reams of official FBI documentation detailing Hoover’s forty-year preoccupation with flying saucers.
I am certainly not suggesting that all biopics of historical figures whose lives have intertwined with the UFO mystery should devote screen time to the issue (though, in a post-disclosure world, this may well become the norm), but how refreshing it would be for just one Hollywood screenwriter, just once, to draw inspiration from beyond the established historical meta-narrative and to transcend generic conventions when penning biopics of heavyweight political, military, and intelligence figures. John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Richard Nixon, George W. Bush, James Jesus Angleton, Margaret Thatcher – all have had varying degrees of knowledge about the UFO issue, and all have been the subject of award-winning Hollywood movies in which the term “UFO” is not once uttered.
The upcoming Emperor may tick all the boxes required to receive an Oscar (and no doubt Tommy Lee Jones is already making space on his awards shelf), but ask yourself: what would you rather the focus be in a movie about MacArthur – a predictable cross-cultural romance as promised by the synopsis, or, instead, a legendary military leader in a war-torn land, deeply concerned, not only by weighty post-War terrestrial matters, but also by “interplanetary” events quietly but dramatically impacting our world (details of which are known only to the most highly polished of officialdom’s top brass), all the while trying desperately not to drop the ball for fear that enemy nations will exploit these otherworldly phenomena to their military advantage...
Now that’s a movie I’d pay to see. Sadly, I think I’ll be waiting a while to see it.

Around the world, people are taking note of a sound, a hum, that permeates the air around them.
Is this natural and due to a shift in the magnetic fields, seismec activity, or is it something more sinister?
I received an email from a young mother in Round Rock, Texas. She complained of a "hum".

"I live in the [removed] subdivision of Round Rock Texas. I've been awakened in recent weeks by strange humming noises, like at 3am this morning. I was first awakened by my one year old talking in his sleep through the baby monitor. Then around 2:55am I awakened to a humming which changed frequency several times. Usually it's just one frequency. The A/C was off and an inspection of the sky showed no aircraft or high wind. I was unable to sleep all night and felt sick, stomach ache and generally restless and uneasy. At about 10am this morning (11/12/2011) there were 7 military copters in formation flying low over our home. Two times in the last 4 months there have been large military formations flying over our house at around 3-4am. Once I slept through it but my husband was awakened and disturbed. The other time I was awakened and it was so close to our house that the windows were shaking and I ran to get the baby because I thought they were crashing on us. What the heck is going on around here?!"
Previously, I had received emails from a lady living in Pflugerville, who experienced the same humming sounds. She had also noticed military aircraft in the area. Is there a connection?
So what is going on? No one is certain but there have been suggestions, ranging from electromagnetic fields, to the use of HAARP.
Another suggestion is, could this be the sound of earth boring equipment? I spent many years listening to the generators at a hydro-electric power plant, where my spouse worked. We lived nearby. When the generators were on line, the hum and even the rumbling vibration is a very close match.
Whatever this sound is, it is very annoying and can be hazardous to human health.

My encounter takes place on June 25, 2011 on Delta flight 2363 leaving out of JFK (New York) heading to LAX (Los Angeles), departure time 7:00pm.
The first strange thing about the flight was that they rushed us onboard. I had specifically asked at the service desk previously whether the flight was going to arrive and take off on time, and I was told that it was. So I was surprised that an announcement came on the overhead telling people to take their seats as quickly as possible because we were the first cleared for immediate take off. People were still boarding the plane, and rushing up the aisle to their seats because of this sense of urgency. I was sitting on the right hand side of plane by the window, at the emergency exit. There was a young woman next to me and a young man on the other side of her. A flight attendant came by and asked us if we had any problem with helping out during an emergency since we were sitting by the emergency exits. I said no and so did the guy, but the girl next to me had headphones on and was sleeping apparently. The attendant made her wake up because he needed a verbal response. She made some kind of response but the words couldn't be understood, and sounded unusual. I'm pretty good with accents, and couldn't place it at all. It sounded like more than an accent issue. The attendant repeated himself a couple times because he couldn't understand either, and finally the guy sitting with us said she understood and agreed. The attendant left, and I didn't see him again. A new attendant came and strapped himself into the seatbelts on the wall infront of our three seats. He was tall, extremely thin, bald with tan skin. He never smiled or made eye contact like normal attendants do. After take off, he left. The lavatories/restrooms were on the other side of the wall infront of us. One was in my line of sight because it was diagonal to where we were sitting. A female attendant with a strange, wobbly walk kept going back and forth checking into the bathrooms. I noticed the bald, male attendant started to do it too. About an hour or so into the flight I went to the restroom. There was something in the air in there that was making me cough badly. I returned to my seat having a coughing fit. A few other passengers who went to the restroom started coughing too I noticed.
When the food cart came around I got an apple juice and some cookies. Again I started coughing violently due to a tingly feeling in my throat. I don't have any known food allergies. Usually when people start coughing, other people move away, but the girl next to me took off her sweater jacket and actually moved closer. I noticed a very sweet perfume smell wafting from her and the guy's direction. When random people started going past for the restrooms, some of them would smell unusually foul, others would smell sweet. It was very strange. Two men, one of them with no shoes or socks on, started doing stretching exercises by the restroom doors.
Then I started to have a pulse go through my body at different intervals (like a mild electric pulse that contracted some muscles and spread upwards). I couldn't control it and didn't know what was causing it. It would literally make me jump in my seat at times, and I noticed whenever this happened, I would hear the people in rows behind me react with laughter, whistles, chirping bird-like sounds, and something that sounded like a purr. It did not sound human at all, except for the laughs/giggles. The guy sitting one seat from me was on some kind of computer device that looked like an ipad.
When I looked out the window about three or more hours into flight, I noticed unusual cloud cover. It was dark, roiling clouds. At this altitude, clouds are usually flat and non distinct beneath you. But these were like foamy rain clouds, and near the plane. A amber yellow light started to streak the clouds and illuminate them. Then they started to fade into wisps. Outside the plane, beyond the right wing and slightly behind, a yellow oval light was following plane. And as I looked below, a bunch of lights started to appear. They were clustered together in spherical formation at the center of a web-like arangement. A few lights in linear formation would branch off from some of the center clusters (like spokes on a wheel). They were white, amber, yellow lights. I would have to describe it as a fleet. They kept pace with the plane for awhile, 10-15 minutes. I was having trouble staring out window because the pulses through my body had increased in frequency and intensity. When I looked away from window it would stop. When I looked back it would start again. I was being trained not to look out the window.
The girl next to me started stretching alot. At one point she leaned all the way forwards for awhile and I could see that her torso looked alot longer than before, and something was going on with her shoulder blades. When she sat back up her head, which had been lower than mine's before was now on level with mine's at minimum. She turned to look at me and out the corner of my eye I could tell her face had significantly lengthened. Her eyes seemed more prominent. I did not turn my head to look. I wish that I had, but at the time I was in shock. She looked away, and in a few minutes deliberately touched her foot to my lower leg. I got a tingle sensation that was different from the pulses. She went back to sleeping position when I didn't move or look. The guy one seat over from me was tapping away at the computer device, and every time he gave a big tap I would get a pulse. Then sometimes he would lean forward and hold his head, or lean his head back in the seat, and then I would get a series of intense pulses. He looked over at me a couple of times, and left me with no doubt it was him doing it.
At the end of the flight when we got off, I noticed the girl went off with a large group of people from the plane in the baggage claim area. She also had an unusual gait. I'd like to note that there was absolutely no turbulence on the plane ride. Smoothest ride I've ever taken, and I fly quite a bit. Also, at no point did I feel threatened...in shock yes, but not threatened or fearful for my life. And my asthma symptoms were much improved for days afterward. I'd just like answeres to what happened. I think about it every minute, every second.

I'm from Los Angeles and I saw something just like that a few days ago (maybe Monday?). It was headed West to East around 6:50am. It was north and slightly west of downtown because I was in traffic on the 110 N heading into downtown.
This was around sunrise and I'd never seen a shooting star when it's not strictly night. It's also one of the brightest shooting stars I've ever seen, and it was a greenish tint. I saw IO9 report on this and hoped they had an answer as to what I saw!
I responded and asked:
First, did the object appear to be in our atmosphere and if so, how close to Earth?
Second, did IO9 have an answer?

Hey!
I would say yes, it appeared to be in the atmosphere. It was pretty low and was visible for a good three - 3.5 seconds. Maybe a fist, fist and a half above the horizon? I'm not sure how far north of me it was, but it was directly aligned with the freeway. Sitting in traffic, I was staring STRAIGHT at it as it ran west to east. I was somewhere between the A and the B points on this map, although I think I was much closer to A than B:

Io9 unfortunately had no answer. The headline was "Did you see this bright green light zooming overhead earlier this week" and I clicked because I did and wanted to know what it was! They only quoted your site, though. I'd love to know what it was!

Just to clarify the details of my sighting of the green sphere or (fireball) in the sky the night of the 23rd: this comes after reading a couple of other Tx reports of the same type of sightings on the same night. Before the actual 5 second occurence, I also saw three craft, and in my perspective, these were small civilian aircraft often seen coming to and from our local small airports, nothing of extrateresstrial origin. These three craft flew from east to west and seemed to be an equal distance apart, going at the same speed across the sky and the green ball event happened within a few minutes after they flew by. This may help to exact my time of sighting. The ball also went from the south to north direction, but from my vantage point did not go as far as I30...Could be more than one ball that night?

Just to clarify the details of my sighting of the green sphere or (fireball) in the sky the night of the 23rd: this comes after reading a couple of other Tx reports of the same type of sightings on the same night. Before the actual 5 second occurence, I also saw three craft, and in my perspective, these were small civilian aircraft often seen coming to and from our local small airports, nothing of extrateresstrial origin. These three craft flew from east to west and seemed to be an equal distance apart, going at the same speed across the sky and the green ball event happened within a few minutes after they flew by. This may help to exact my time of sighting. The ball also went from the south to north direction, but from my vantage point did not go as far as I30...Could be more than one ball that night?

While driving on Ohio drive in Frisco the sky was very clear. I saw what appeared to be a green fireball. It reminded me of 4th of July fireworks however it was just one fireball and very large. My 13 year old was in the car and I yelled "look" and we both were like wow. We determined it couldn't be a meteor as we saw a meteor shower two summers ago and it looked nothing like that. We also said why would someone just shoot one firework in the sky and it didn't drop pieces of fire. It just very slowly shot across the sky and went down and just dissappeared. There was also what appeared to be an airplane traveling in the same direction and I was wondering if they saw what we saw.
